Visualizations
The use of visualizations in marketing efforts and company messaging is a strategy that I have advocated for in my work at the American Meteorological Society. With a deep reservoir of history, academic data, and data-derived copy, the AMS is an organization that is well set up for building visual assets based on research and science.
Interim Centennial Monograph Cover
This is an interim version of the AMS’s centennial monograph cover used before the final cover design was completed. The main graphic element is a stylized visualization of data provided via precipitation radar. This was data that could be found within the monograph itself and offered readers a brief and eye-catching preview of the monograph’s contents. Microsoft Excel was used to create a simplified version of this data, which was then translated in Illustrator for use on the cover.
Centennial Giving Campaign
For the AMS’s 100th Anniversary, there was a distinct campaign that was focused on Giving and Development. There were five main funds that could be supported, and these are represented by the five rings within these graphics. This is an early iteration of a graphic that was built for visualizing the progress of giving goals. The gold arrows within the rings were built for visualizing what percentage of each fund’s donation goals were achieved at a particular moment.
Centennial Initiatives Presentation Graphic
This piece was included in an executive-level presentation that was part of planning the initiatives that would drive the AMS’s Centennial Campaign. These initiatives were the result of research into the AMS’s existing strengths and future potential. This graphic was created to visualize these conclusions in an compelling and digestible way.
The Future of AMS Publications
This flyer and supporting timeline graphic were part of a presentation on the future of the AMS’s publications department. The AMS’s long history of academic publishing is part of the organization’s legacy, and a graphic was needed to capture just how far back the history goes. The timeline graphic was a means of illuminating the AMS’s history of publication, as well as its consistent, continued release of academic journals.
AMS Journals Infographic
This infographic was created as part of an effort to include more data-driven information in AMS’s marketing materials. The visual presentation of the care and attention that goes into every published academic paper was part of a marketing strategy to drive more paper submissions.
